ABOUT US

Thank you for visiting the web home of Tiki Island Chapel. I hope you find this website informative and helpful as you attempt to learn more about the varied ministries of Tiki Chapel.

We are a church striving to fulfill the Great Commission through a commitment to minister to everyone on the island – “Loving God – Loving people”. Most days of the week something is going on at the Chapel and in the homes of its members and friends.

Our congregation tends to reflect the changing demographics of the island. When the chapel began, the congregation was mainly made up of more mature people who moved to the island as they retired. In contrast, today a large number of those moving to Tiki tend to be younger, and often have young families.

Another interesting aspect of island life is that some 40% of the residents are “weekenders’, meaning their home on Tiki is a second home where they retreat to for holiday’s and weekends. This is also reflected in our membership, where a number of these ‘weekenders’ call Tiki Chapel their home church, even though they are not here most of the week. Mirroring this, one of our Elders is also a ‘weekender’ who brings an important additional perspective to our community life.

Finally, people often ask us what denomination we are? Well, we are a Presbyterian congregation with a Constitution based on an Eldership and Pastor. But we hold this affiliation with a light touch, since our membership represents virtually all of the mainline denominations from Quaker to Catholic, Baptist to Methodist, Free-Church to Episcopalian. Some even have no church background!

We would love you to visit us in person. Come and find out what people in our community are talking about!
